In episode #79, Mel and Trish chat to romance novelist Sandy Barker about the notoriously challenging road that has led her to becoming a published author. Sandy is one of those incredible women, who with tenacity and determination is now seeing her ‘big hairy audacious dream’ of becoming a full-time author turning into a reality.
In 2018, Sandy and her partner took a midlife sabbatical to live and work in various countries around the world. At the time, she had just self-published her first novel and written another but was looking for a traditional publisher and agent. Fast forward twelve months and after perfecting her pitch and approaching multiple publishing houses, Sandy landed herself both a publishing contract with Harper Collins UK and a UK-based agent.
Her first book was published in 2019 and another seven books followed with an 8th published in November last year. She has also just signed a 5 x book ‘romcom’ series with Boldwood Books. Melbourne-based Sandy currently divides her time between working in adult education four days per week and writing.
She is an energised, enthusiastic 50isher, realising her dream and who doesn’t love that?
Enjoy the wonderful storyteller, Sandy Barker.
